Fishing in a Sea of Data

How does a drug take effect in a cell? Why is it effective with patient A, and not patient B? What is the optimal dose? Researchers working on drug development regularly have to address such questions. Computer models can be an important aid. Coming up with new methods of modeling complex biological processes – this is the specific task of the Research Center for Computational Biomedicine in Aachen, jointly established by Bayer Technology Services and the RWTH Aachen University. One of the two Heads of the Center is Professor Andreas Schuppert from Bayer Technology Services. As a key expert for industrial mathematics, he has mastered the art of fishing the relevant details from the sea of data available.
