Achieving the Perfect Flow

How should a reactor be designed and operated to ensure that two gaseous components react in the best way possible? This is a typical task facing fluid dynamics engineers at Bayer Technology Services. They use complex computer models and perform elaborate simulation experiments to obtain the ideal reactor. This is also what happened with the new Bayer MaterialScience plant for the production of the polyurethane raw material TDI in Shanghai. The decisive reaction step requires 60 percent less energy compared with conventional production facilities.
